Career education and the pathologies of work
I SOME USEFUL DISTINCTIONS Pathology is the science of disease. It is concerned with the causes of disorders and their effects. The concept of pathology has no meaning except in relation to some understanding of healthfulness, wholesomeness, and normality. To speak of the pathologies of work is, therefore, to speak of the diseases, the disorders, or the unhealthy conditions to which work itself is subject. And that, in turn, presupposes that there is such a thing as the healthiness, wholesomeness, and normality of work.
