Violence, social exclusion and construction of identities in early childhood education

In this chapter, Blanco writes of the violence born of poverty and prejudice in a culture of excess. She writes, too, of teachers needing to be aware that they may “involuntarily be fostering the sort of structural violence against less privileged children (Ross Epp and Watkinson 1999) which is so ubiquitous in a neoliberal society extolling ownership and consumption as the basic principles of existence”.
