ABSTRACT

A sense of place matters to us all. We can hardly imagine our existence without thinking ‘place’ in one way or another; as real, imagined, remembered, lived, experienced. We talk of having a place, being in a place, being out of place, going to a place, coming from a place. Places have significance in our cultural world; they demarcate what, where and how we do things or not! Yet what we mean by the term ‘place’ is not at all well understood.
