USING THE NEEDS ABC MODEL IN COUPLES AND FAMILY THERAPY
Pages 16

At this point I would like to examine some commonly understood therapeutic principles in light of the Needs Acquisition and Behavior Change (ABC) model’s approach to working with couples and their families. As we know, in all clinical modalities-including couples, family, individual, and group-it is important to have a clear understanding of what it takes to do good clinical work. Generally, these qualities can be divided into the following components: session phases; client stages; facilitation versus leadership; pacing; awareness of clinical process (self and other); and the ability to stay on track while storing information for future use. However, what it takes also transcends practical knowledge and know-how.
