Careers and Age: Career Success for Older and Younger Workers
The chapters so far in this book have described the general perspectives of individuals around the world and how they experience career success and career transitions. The focus so far has therefore been on the impact of culture and national context on individuals’ career experiences. We will now shift our focus to the impact of age and/or generation on people’s conceptions of career success. This chapter takes a closer look at the specific experiences of two age groups, compares these two groups and looks at how they differ across the globe. As the quotes above
suggest, the experiences of these individuals vary greatly depending on the country and group to which they belong.
