ABSTRACT

By placing the story of the institution of the Lord’s Supper in the context of Jesus’ celebration of Passover and near the beginning of the passion-resurrection sequence, the synoptic writers leave us in no doubt as to the importance of the practice of memory Jesus of Nazareth instituted for his disciples and its close connection with his passion.2 As evangelical theologians begin to take renewed interest in the theology of the church and its life, attention must therefore be paid again to the Lord’s Supper, so often marginal to the spirituality, theology and worship of evangelicals.3
