ABSTRACT

Dr. Samson: Our next presenter also used photography for her dissertation project, except in this case it was the participants who took the pictures to provide the data for study. It is my pleasure to introduce Dr. Denise A. Ségor. Denise graduated in 2006 from Fielding Graduate University’s Human and Organizational Development program. She is a writer and professional who works in the areas of cultural effectiveness, human storytelling, organizational development, and non-profit management. She is currently working on turning her dissertation into a book that will have a broader audience beyond academia.

Denise: Thanks Dr. Samson, Runner, Four Arrows and all the pioneering scholars and presenters who are here this week for allowing me to share my own “alternative” dissertation with you. In this case, as Dr. Samson said, my dissertation integrated women’s “photovoices” in that I gave them cameras and asked them to tell us through photos what was important in their lives or what they wanted to tell us or what they wanted for their children.
