The contact normal distribution function according to Eq. (2) for different a values are shown in Fig. 5. When a > 0, the contact normals of the particles in the assembly tend to concentrate in the vertical direction (3-direction), whereas, when a < 0, they tend to concentrate in the horizontal direction (1-and 2-directions).
