ABSTRACT

Articulating, much less assessing, feminist perspectives on the news is a complicated and multi-directional project, given that feminism is complex, with shifting goals that have been unevenly accomplished. Nonetheless, clearly troubled by the content and practices of mainstream news organizations, US feminist scholars have documented several significant issues. Meanwhile, feminist activists have worked hard to “correct” news coverage of women and of the feminist movement and to encourage equity and even wholesale reform in the newsroom.
