This chapter outlines recent work at the University of Bradford in supporting students' transition into higher education using a range of facilities that take advantage of tools such as social networking and e-portfolios. It examines how to link initial engagement and transition with online pre-induction support. For international students the expectations questionnaire has helped them manage the process of integration into a new culture more effectively. Interactions involved replying to discussion board threads, lurking in Facebook groups and responding to questions raised by students, answering questions raised in the expectations survey and signposting students to other relevant University services who could help with their queries. From the institution's perspective it has helped the University to respond more effectively to students before they come, and to understand what issues they are facing.
