chapter  4
Helping Learners Make SMART Decisions
Pages 19

The West of Scotland Wider Access Forum, a consortium of further and higher education institutions in the west of Scotland, funded a project to better prepare potential students for higher education. The aim was to address the needs of students before entry by helping them to make better decisions about which university to attend and at what level to study in order to meet their long-term goals. The Decision Making and Student Progression in Transition Project was supported by the West of Scotland Wider Access Forum s part of ongoing work to increase participation rates and improve the student experience. The Forum membership consists of all further and higher education providers in the west of Scotland. The project developed a workshop model that was disseminated to all participating institutions so that this process would be delivered locally. The project involved the cooperation of all tertiary education institutions in the region.
