An Updated Review of the Multidimensionality of Training Outcomes: New Directions for Training Evaluation Research

WithJ. Kevin Ford, Kurt Kraiger, Stephanie M. Merritt

Kraiger, Ford, and Salas (1993) argued that to advance the science and practice of training evaluation, it was necessary to move toward a conceptually based classification scheme of learning based on a multidimensionality perspective. They examined learning taxonomies from educational and cognitive science disciplines (e.g., Bloom, 1956; Gagne, 1984; Krathwohl, Bloom, & Masia, 1964) and developed a classification scheme of learning outcomes that included three major learning outcome categories: cognitive, skill based, and affective.
