ABSTRACT
The reader who might have an interest in sustainability may wonder about the reasons for giving the issue of noise some coverage in a book dealing with technology and sustainability in the built environment. Although the link between noise and architectural technology is fairly straightforward, its relationship with sustainable developments needs to be clarifi ed. Most publications on environmentally conscious design approaches tend to emphasise the issue of energy, which does not apply directly to the aural environment. Noise, however is closely related to sustainability in many ways.
