ABSTRACT

The benefits of mentoring relationships have been clearly documented in the empirical literature over the past 20 years (Allen & Eby, 2007; Ragins & Kram, 2007b). Mentoring contributes to the growth and development of both mentors and protégés and is associated with a wide range of positive work attitudes and career outcomes (Allen, Eby, Poteet, Lentz, & Lima, 2004; Underhill, 2006; Wanberg, Welsh, & Hezlett, 2003). In fact, at its best mentoring exemplifies one of the most positive types of workplace relationships (Ragins & Verbos, 2007).
