ABSTRACT

The cognitive revolution in linguistics, psychology, anthropology, and other social sciences had a profound impact on philosophy, but its effect on other areas of the humanities was far more muted. In particular, research into cinema was largely untouched by questions of information processing, metal representations, modularity, and other lines of research. But cinema has obvious psychological and social effects, and it was probably inevitable that some researchers would turn to the emerging cognitive sciences for assistance in answering questions of film theory.
