ABSTRACT

To reflect on the dead father might seem like reopening an old forgotten chapter in classical Freudian psychoanalysis. Freud was preoccupied with this idea for his entire life. Is it not in the famous letter of October 1897 that he makes the first allusion to the Oedipus complex, in a reference to a play with which he was familiar: Oedipus Rex? And doesn’t he extend his thoughts to Hamlet?
