ABSTRACT

Literacy development requires individualized attention. One-toone or small group interaction with an adult can assist students with misunderstandings or decoding of unknown words, vocabulary development, comprehension of details, choice of the right word to express an idea, improvement of grammar and expression, and other necessary crossroads for comprehending reading and composing text. Great differences in level of proficiency of students in a classroom make it close to impossible for a single teacher to efficiently help students develop literacy in an individualized or small group setting.
