ABSTRACT

This chapter will briefly review Part I and Part II and will then consider some aspects of the promotion of physical literacy within and beyond the school setting. Issues covered will include the role of significant others in fostering and maintaining physical literacy, including physical education teachers. The relationship between physical literacy, physical activity and physical education will then be explained. The chapter will lay the ground for Chapter 14 which looks at learning and teaching approaches in the context of nurturing physical literacy, and Chapter 15 which is concerned to present a case for involving individuals in a wide range of physical activities.
