Rent seeking, corruption, and clientelism
This chapter examines two political networking activities related to rent seeking-corruption and clientelism-and it uses two case studies of economic crime to outline the interplay and differences between them. Rent seeking, corruption, and clientelism are empirically distinct. Each of these phenomena is aimed at a different goal. Each of them involves different parties, the relationship between which is in turn different. However, rent seeking, corruption, and clientelism can occur simultaneously.
