Technology adoption and use are in fl ux. In addition, adolescence is a de facto period of fl ux. Teens use technologies for the purposes at hand. These change and vary according to the point in the emancipation process in which they fi nd themselves. Technology is also confi guring the way that adolescents, and their parents, are carrying out the emancipation process. Starting in the 1990s, teens fi rst recognized the potential for the use of wireless communication. Beginning with the ownership and use of pagers, teens started to use these devices for various forms of coordination and interaction. They have also been active in exploring innovative forms of use.
