Stockmann is a Finnish retailing company that is best known for its fl agship department store in the center of Helsinki. The company was established in Helsinki in 1862 and was listed in the Helsinki Stock Exchange in 1942. The sales of the company were some 1.85 billion euros in 2005 and it employs about 11,000 people. Stockmann has four business divisions out of which the department store group is the largest, representing 54 percent of the group’s sales. The other divisions are car retailing (25 percent), mail-order business Hobby Hall (13 percent) and clothing retailer Seppälä (8 percent).
