Progress we need; progress we will have. Stability we need; stability we will . . . I am not sure how this sentence ends, for the noise of the bull-dozer confuses me and the dust of falling buildings obscures my vision. And my children’s historic roots seem to be being fed to the flames as casually as the mallee root is thrown on the evening hearth, to glow – and die in ashes.
