ABSTRACT

Sometimes executives can benefit by changing the way they think, especially when their thinking limits their success. Coaches armed with cognitive methods can be of great help when this happens. This is true because of the special role that coaches play. A coach can (and should) tell clients that they are thinking incorrectly or poorly, because few others are in a position to do this. One’s spouse cannot, their colleagues cannot, and their boss cannot either. A coach can teach a client how to improve the quality of their thinking and, as a result, improve the way they feel and behave. Cognitive therapy focuses on the ways that bad thinking creates negative emotions.
