ABSTRACT

The end of the Cold War offered many countries an opportunity to reevaluate and reassess their respective foreign policies. One of the reassessments on the Indian side resulted in the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between India and Israel in 1992, partly in the hope that establishing relations with Israel would have a favorable impact on Indo-US relations. That notwithstanding, in the 15 years since, relations between India and Israel have undergone substantial change. This is in large part a result of the changing geo-political and economic environment, as well as the similar trajectories of their respective economies, which are powered by knowledge-based and high technology industries. The United States is a common denominator for both countries for similar reasons; in addition to being the sole remaining superpower with influence and interests worldwide, it is also the world-leader in high technology and the chief source of financing for the global innovation economy.
