In particular, the papers of SED Secretary for International Affairs, Hermann Axen, and East German reports on internal meetings of the Warsaw Pact countries’ Secretaries for ideology and international affairs shed light on the role of Western European communists within the international communist movement and the atmosphere during talks with their Eastern counterparts.
