ABSTRACT

The university . . . is a kind of utopian state . . . It’s a grandiose idea, because most of us tend to think of the university as a place where one has a career, which is certainly true, and there’s nothing wrong with that; but if you wanted to you could have a somehow more extended idea of what the university is . . . something of this sort is at least useful to get discussion started. And it can be done by individuals.
