ABSTRACT

In addressing the problematic of Living Together, this book asks the question: What is it that holds cities together? What are the circumstances that lead to myriad partitions within cities, as well as to their annihilation as multiethnic cities. This work is about the (im)possibilities of cosmopolitan being in cities, in the past and the present. The Im (hyphen) possibilities folding into itself both the potentialities of the urban condition as well as its negation.
