ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present chapter is to articulate and elaborate various forms of Team MindMeld, or cognitive similarity, that may exist among team members. First, the functions of cognitive similarity in teams are described. Next, a framework is presented that defines cognitive similarity and includes forms of cognition, forms of similarity, and cognitive content domains. Types and configurations of cognitive similarity are presented in that framework. Then, configurations of cognitive similarity in teams are illustrated with examples that target information sharing in

teams and team adaptability. The examples highlight the variety of possible relationships that may exist among types of cognitive similarity and team processes and outcomes. Lastly, training and technology are offered as two methods for inducing a Team MindMeld.
