Once Upon a Cross

I glanced over at my parents, gave them “the nod,” and went to get ready.

Sister Judy liked me, because I was always eager to help out, could actually lift and carry the cross, knew how to tie the difficult ropes that we servers wore around our waists as part of our robes, and the other servers followed my lead. Plus, I played the baritone in band, just like she did when she was younger.
