chapter  7
The amount and structure of human movement variability
ByKarl M. Newell, Eric G. James
Pages 12

Variability is a hallmark property of biological systems within and between species. In many disciplines variability has been a fundamental source of information for the development of theory but the importance of variability has been less central in human biomechanics and motor control research. Generally, the field of human movement has focused on the invariance of movement properties as opposed to its variance for the primary source of information about the organization of motor control.
