External and internal forces in sprint running

ByJoseph P. Hunter, Robert N. Marshall, Peter J. McNair

This chapter focuses on unobstructed sprint-running in a straight line. First, we review the three external forces acting on a sprinter. We make particular reference to the magnitudes and effects of these forces. Then, we review the internal forces and moments and the relationships they have with kinematics, muscle activity, changes in muscle length, and segment interactions.
