ABSTRACT

Building a good stage management team is crucial to a healthy atmosphere in the rehearsal room and a smooth transition into the theatre. Different cultures have different ways of arranging their stage management. In larger UK theatres such as the National Theatre, there is a team of three or four stage management – a stage manager, a deputy stage manager and one or two assistant stage managers. By comparison, a production on the fringe in the same country will probably involve one or two people covering all the stage management functions.
