ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines some key de®nitions and theoretical frameworks relating to the idea and practice of intercultural supervision in dramatherapy. The chapter draws on a survey of UK dramatherapists' cultural backgrounds and on intercultural issues addressed in supervision (Dokter and Hughes 2007), on research into UK dramatherapy (Jones and Dokter 2008) and a small scale pilot project in a UK trust (Dokter 2006). We then discuss two case studies in depth, analysing the two triadic relationships of supervisor±supervisee±client (Brown and Landrum-Brown 1995) and client±therapist±arts form (Jones 2005) for the intercultural issues raised. The chapter concludes with recommendations for research and conceptual development for intercultural dynamics in dramatherapy supervision. Pseudonyms are used to protect client con®dentiality.
