ABSTRACT

The United States is the richest country in the world. It is also a remarkably accomplished nation. In fact, time and again our nation has demonstrated that with resolve, political will and financial investments, major achievements can be accomplished. For example, in 1961, President John F. Kennedy declared the U.S. national space mission to put a “man” on the moon. Subsequently, the U.S. space program was stepped up with large public investments. Public policies supported the trial-and-error approach to launching spacecraft and getting humans into space. By 1969, we eventually reached and walked on the moon. This achievement demonstrates that money, political will, and a trial-and-error approach to reaching desired goals are powerful tools for change.
