ABSTRACT

This chapter will explore the growing popularity of global issues in the geography curriculum. As discussed in the previous chapters, seeing the world as interdependent and engaging with contemporary global issues are seen as essential parts of developing a global perspective. The implication is that if issues are truly global in nature then everybody has a responsibility towards solving them no matter where they occur. Some of the issues appearing in geography curricula include environmental problems, sustainable development projects, trade, social justice, protecting human rights or the rights of minorities, equality, fighting poverty and responding to natural disasters.
