(research-based) Guiding Students into a Discipline: The Significance of the Teacher

WithANDY NORTHEDGE, JAN MCARTHUR

This chapter focuses on the higher education teacher’s role as representative of their discipline. While other chapters address the nature and meaning of disciplinarity, the character of different disciplines and their various practices in teaching, learning and assessment, this chapter explores the general significance, within the act of teaching, of the teacher’s membership of a discipline community.
