ABSTRACT

Readers of all nationalities and cultures have unquestionably been enchanted by J. K. Rowling’s words vivifying a vast, fictional world full of strange places, magical creatures, and colorful characters, and where mysterious things keep happening. However, the traditional, printed book is far from the only gateway to Harry’s life and whereabouts at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Five motion pictures based on the series have been produced by Warner Brothers since 2001, with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, directed by David Yates and released in July 2007 being the latest instalment. Moreover, Warner Brothers licensed Electronic Arts (EA) to develop the Harry Potter computer games and from the very beginning with the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001), computer games based on the series have been produced in close association with the film adaptations.2 Unlike many other computer games produced under similar circumstances, however, the Potter games are explicitly based not only on the film adaptations of Rowling’s novels but also directly on the original literary works.3
