In 2006, Minnesota State Representative Keith Ellison made history twice. In the November general election, he became Minnesota’s fi rst Black Congressman. He also became the fi rst Muslim member of the U.S. Congress. Th e latter distinction was particularly notable because it took place fi ve years after September 11 and the beginning of the war on jihadist terror.
