In 2006, Minnesota State Representative Keith Ellison made history twice. In the November general election, he became Minnesota’s ﬁ rst Black Congressman. He also became the ﬁ rst Muslim member of the U.S. Congress. Th e latter distinction was particularly notable because it took place ﬁ ve years after September 11 and the beginning of the war on jihadist terror.
