ABSTRACT
In the literature on civil society the Scandinavian voluntary sectors are often labelled as ‘social democratic’ (Janoski 1998; Salamon and Anheier 1998). Does this help us to make sense of their main characteristics and evolution? And what type of civil society are we talking about?
