ABSTRACT
Put midwives together and they will start talking about their work, about the unusual or difficult situations they have faced, how they reacted, and what the outcomes were. These narratives provide insight into the actual work of midwives and put some flesh on the bones of social scientific analysis of the professions and professionalization.
