ABSTRACT
Coffee is a major commercial crop and is second only to petroleum in value as a commodity in world trade. It is the major component of foreign exchange of a number of countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Although not a primary source of food, coffee provides employment and social benefits for millions of people in developing countries and constitutes the major source of foreign exchange needed to buy goods and technology.
