T he problems of the Shore family are common ones. Among them areunemployment, illness, and the worrisome behavior of the children. Whatis uncommon is that the problems never get resolved. Although the family members frequently seek help and are the recipients of various social services, they never seem to function free from symptoms. Individually and collectively, their lives are marked by crisis and emotional distress.
