Honoring Elders through Conversations about eir Lives

Sarah, a retired executive with a doctoral degree, had worked for an agency that delivered services to the elderly. She had participated in inventing “Meals on Wheels” for her agency, many years ago. Celia, a recently retired social worker in her nineties told us that had she cofounded the fi rst Family Th erapy Center in New York, with Nathan Ackerman in 1959. Lillian, ninety years old, had assisted her husband in running a small recording studio. Th ey had helped performers who could not aff ord expensive studio time. Working with elders has humbled and fascinated me, and I have continued to be in reciprocal relationships with elders who look forward to our conversation groups as much as I do.
