ABSTRACT

In each of the vignettes just described, the individuals in question were about to embark on a research project. Each of them had a question that required acquisition and analysis of information in some form to answer. As demonstrated by these, the term research applies to a broad range of activities on the college campus. Analysis of already available institutional data, exploration of legal implications of a campus issue, questions about student learning in classes, research on faculty experiences, needs assessment, evaluation of programs, and monitoring of new policies-all these and more fall under the general rubric of research.
