The residential treatment center specialized in helping “seriously disturbed” adolescents. This meant that it was a place for kids who had been thrown out by the system or otherwise given up as hopeless cases. These were teenagers who were runaways, psychotic, or seriously suicidal. They had all been abused-emotionally, physically, and sexually. Perhaps even worse, they had been neglected and abandoned.
