Contesting the Neoliberal City: Campaign Praxis in the MNSJ

The organizing and orchestrating of broad-based pressure campaigns was one of the most important ways knowledge was produced in the MNSJ. The discourses and practices of the MNSJ’s public politics provide another way to study processes of identity formation and knowledge creation. This chapter focuses on the MNSJ’s urban-oriented campaign praxis-its broadbased efforts to exert pressure for change on the Metro budget, in municipal elections, on property tax reform and on the restructuring of governance in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
