This chapter will focus on the nature of practical work in science, in relation to the needs of the gifted, and will consider:

• the types and purposes of different types of practical work used in science teaching;

• student responses to practical work; • the type of practical work that is most likely to engage, motivate,

challenge and stretch gifted learners.
