ABSTRACT

Yet the invasion is not only about conquering, about replacing a social norm with a legal norm. Conquering is the easy task if the invading army is strong enough; and few can deny the power of law. To rebuild the conquered territory, so that it has its own legitimacy and autonomy is more difficult. External law cannot solely coerce the internal field into submission to its norms. Readjusting to the gaze of law is more complex. What I want to explore in this chapter is juridification, as a process of interaction between internal regulation and external law, and to study the way in which an internal regime of autonomy is altered by legal intervention.
