chapter  3

In the dictionary ‘consideration’ is defined as both a fact to be taken into account when making a decision and careful thought. This chapter explores a host of legal, ethical, moral and practical considerations that may impact on the decision-making process whilst progressing along the line to finding an answer to the question ‘should coaching continue?’, and if coaching is to continue has the substance and structure been changed and if coaching is thought to be inappropriate what needs consideration as part of ending the relationship? Chapter 4 looks in greater detail at the choices faced by the coach from continuing to coach, through coaching alongside other support, to ending the relationship, perhaps by initiating other professional contact, and highlights the specific issues likely to need thought with each choice (see Table 4.1, p. 76).
