ABSTRACT

This chapter recounts events and lessons from three action learning sets run by Michael Lyons with new chief executives of UK local authorities during 2002-4. The material is derived from an interview with Michael Lyons (ML) conducted by Clare Rigg (CR) in early 2005 and the chapter is presented in interview format around core themes that explore why and how action learning was used, and in particular Michael Lyons’ reflections on coming new to facilitation, but highly experienced as a chief executive.
